Mobile News Urban Indonesians have much greater access to media and ICTs. Nevertheless their rural counterparts may be catching on soon; showing much higher growth in access to some ICTs. Rural Indonesians also report greater media use than their own access levels; possibly through community sharing of media and ICT devices, family and friends sharing mobile phones as well as public internet cafés.
Frequent Mobile and Web Users: Who are they? There is very little gender divide in terms of access and weekly use in Indonesia; men and women show almost equal levels of access to almost all media and communications devices. Men send to show more sophisticated mobile phone use, and women are more likely to use the internet for a chatting, social networking and accessing news.

Low-Income Individuals Experience Large Increase in ICT Access; Bolstered by Communal Sharing Survey data indicated that the increase in mobile phone ownership among low-income individuals’ from 2008 to 2009 translated into a doubling of household access. Survey data further substantiated the prevalence of phone sharing, even beyond an individual’s immediate household. Twenty-three percent of those with a low-income who did not have household access to a mobile phone, borrowed a phone from a friend or family member.
